For those who love Asia (perhaps I ought to include myself), you will find fascinating the travel destination for June which is full of mysticism, faith and deep prayer.
North of Japan, you can find the Akita Prefecture, famous for its rice, sake and hot spring resorts. Sounds interesting, doesn’t it? But if you are visiting Akita it would be a crime for you not to visit: “Seitai Hoshikai – The Institute of the Handmaids of the Holy Eucharist.”
A beautiful Catholic Shrine dedicated to Mary, Redemptoris Mater, that encapsulates Japanese culture with its “irimoya-juso-style” architecture and breathtaking gardens. Established in 1970 by Bishop John Shojiro Ito of Niigata, Japan, it is here where you can can find the Statue of our Lady of Akita, the image that spoke to Sister Agnes Katsuko Sasagawa and shed a total of 101 tears.
I leave you with a video of the shrine at different times of the year for you to admire the astonishing landscapes. For more information you can visit: www.seitaihoshikai.com
